lazy sunday? more like lazy comedy.

seeing as how crash just won for best picture, i'd thought i'd take this opportunity to point out to everyone yet again, how america just doesn't understand race in america.

this past saturday, natalie portman hosted saturday night live and one of the skits featured her laying down some hard core gangsta rhymes. this from the same people who brought you one of the most overhyped internet clips ever, lazy sunday.

anyways, as you can probably see, on the surface, it's slightly amusing. but if you think about it, the whole "white people acting like black people" is not only not that funny, but it's also kind of racist. but i actually don't want to harp on the racist part. i'd rather just say that not only was this gag tired when they did it with lazy sunday, it was double tired when they did it with natalie portman. why don't they just do a rap parody anytime a white person hosts saturday night live? ha ha, look, neil patrick harris is rapping, how funny. this is comedy at its laziest.

there are two things that really bother me about this. one, the powerhouse comedic personality behind this, andy samberg, is now really popular with the college kids. of all the people who really don't know shit about race, but think they know shit about race are college kids. and in their idiocy and internalized racist ways, they'll make a hero out of someone who is basically doing blackface.

second, the internet is full of this crap. it's like the 6,001 brokeback mountain parodies that are out there. i wish people knew how to quit...godammit, never mind.

p.s. crash is the worst movie to win best picture since shakespeare in love. even though i won my oscar pool, i want my money back.

Natalie Portman is hot in that video, though.

Nice post. But how about explaining to us college kids why Crash doesn't get race.

Because I think you're right, but I'm too lazy to post about it myself.

you can read my review of crash here. but over time, i have come to the conclusion that crash explores race with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. the acts of racism are too obvious to everyone and it's easy to think of racism as a either god or bad thing. and of course, not that it's good, but it's much more complex than that.

but again, you miss the point erik, since the post was not about crash.

you're spot on the crash thing, ol chap. it should have been called "wild coincidence day in racistville." just too corny for me. shakespeare in love absolutely licked balls, though. i think that there isn't much to better illustrate the difference among races than their tolerance for the hollywood period piece with british accents.

contrary to shakespeare in love which only licked balls as fredo says, crash licked rhinosarous balls! crash winning just goes to show how pathetic and full of tokenization hollywood is. i mean seriously, racist white people left that moving thinking, "damn it i knew i was right!" and white liberals left feeling better about their covertly racist practices thinking, "now i dont feel so guilty for being white!". shame on oprah for supporting this movie...

of course we could just say that brokeback should of won, but lets be real, that movie wasnt the best either. i mean should you win an oscar just because your the first person to put a white gay male couple on the mainstream big screen? personally my vote was for munich but we all knew that the zionist wing of hollywood was going to have none of that...

hey easy with the religious baiting there. i'm still waiting for proof of the jewish conspiracy, like i'm waiting for proof of the illuminati and the roswell coverup.

here's the thing. until this weekend, i'd seen all of the movies that were up except for brokeback. and this weekend, i only managed to squeeze in half of it. and having only seen half of it, i can already assure you that it is the best movie of the year. whatever your feelings about white gay cowboys, it's just a heartbreaking story that was beautifully shot. munich was good, but brokeback lives up to the hype. plus it let us make gay cowboy jokes for a good 2-3 years.
